[溫哥華本地新聞] Walmart development is bigger than I though...

I just read this on Richmond Review today about the development on North side of Alderbridge and East of Gardencity. http://www.richmondreview.com/opinion/198546431.html

I knew that they are putting up a Walmart there but I didn't know that's going to be an outlet style mall in the whole block between Gardencity and No. 4 Road. The current plan is worst than in the video too. NO trees along Alderbridge will be left.
Good luck with the traffic on Gardencity and on No. 4 rd.

Yes. We knew this is happening but I didn't expect a clear cut....

another Chinatown...  No wonder they want a bylaw passed in Richmond to restrict Chinese signs.

Well, if you asked me...we have the Richmond Nature Park around Shell road and Westminster...The Garden City Road and No.4 area is a huge non-usable land now which, I think, if we were to protect/reserve it, fine, make it a park or something...or a reserved land.
But if we decide to develop this place, then yes, this place is going to change.

And I'd like to see Walmart here...so I don't have to go all the way to Queenborough area.

I am ok with a Walmart... but an outlet like in Queenborough in the middle of Richmond?
I don't know. And why can't they put a few less parking (with the traffic so bad, not that many cars can go in anyway!! LOL) and leave a few trees.

Coun. Evelina Halsey-Brandt said the a shopping centre is a good use for the land, considering the population growth in City Centre. But Halsey-Brandt, vice-chair of the planning committee, has some concerns about the design, including a "large blank wall" running parallel to Alderbridge Way and the possibility of retail signs overwhelming the area.
"What I want is to ensure that this is tasteful, that it is going to fit in with what our vision for Richmond is. This is not an American highway mall. In no way do I want to resemble that."

Wolfe predicted the mall traffic chaos from the mall, and decried the loss of trees—especially since the city cancelled plans for a natural park next to Walmart. Despite the presence of protective fences, all trees on the development site—including four significant trees—would be cut down to accommodate a rise in grade for flood protection.

The site, in the Alexandria neighbourhood of West Cambie, is next to land previously designated as natural park. Council voted Monday to rescind that designation, opening the land up to undetermined development.

Now I am sorry to have missed the chance to speak up before that vote happened last Monday.

    I'd rather it has some shops, some kind of community center, condo etc...
rather than just outlet mall..
