trip to Yellowstone

Hi everyone
I am planning a road trip to yellowstone for 4-5 days from Vancouver. But I dont know any good place to stop by between Yellowstone and Vancouver. any suggestion? (except Seattle and Portland).

And what is the Must see in Yellowstone?

thanks

did the roadtrip with my dad + my then GF together by means of driving.

STopped by 1st nite @ Spokane, 2nd nite @ Billings Montana, 3rd day into the outskirts of Yellowstone park.

Spent 3 days 2 nites there, and visited old faithful geyser as well. There are some hole-in-the-wall steak shops there and it's a must visit place if you like steak.

Return trip by means of north-bound through bluegrass border crossing into Alberta, stopped by @ Calgary and then along highway 1 (stopped by @ Merritt) before heading straight back to Vancouver.

You will have to purchase daypass at the booth @ yellowstone park in order to get in there. While you are at it: you get get a map (for driving) to visit it, find some familiar/unfamiliar viewpoints and go from there.

wah!! need to spend 3 days n 2 night at yellowstone??  so much things to see ma? i was thinking only spent one day there....

these days i m planning the route and the idea is, first going east in canada, go Merritt first (coz my dog's breeder is there and I m planning to re-visit them with my dog). then leaving in the afternoon and head to kelowna -> Nelson (stay @ first night),

then next day going to Ainsworth hot spring -> Spokane (second night).
3 day - Spokane - outskirt of yellowstone (such a long drive)
4 day - Spend all day at yellowstone
5 day - Going back to Spokane (still think about this one....coz dont want to visit the same place again)
6 day - to Portland
7 day - portland - seattle - vancouver

anyone have any idea/suggestion about my plan?

Your return trip does not look right to me. You enter the park from the north entrance and travel & sight seeing all the way down south and should leave at the south gate at day's end. From there you pass the Grand Teton and go west to Portland - there are some good places to stop by on the way like Jackson and Painted Hills. You should not go back to Spokane and then go south to Portland - waste of time and gas. It's been 15 years since I drove there last time so I don't remember too much of it so please re-confirm on the web.

kimball~ thanks! I just check out the jackson and painted hills! the painted hill looks amazing and i guess i will go there and check it out. but it is such a long drive according from google map from yellowstone to painted hills. it takes around 13 hours....and from painted hill to portland takes 4+ hour......so i guess i need to find an hotel in between yellowstone and painted hill (baker city might be).

but thank you so much for the advise!
