Please suggest itinerary for Adam River Salmon Run official, because, purpose, family, return

I want to bring my family to join the Salmon Run Festival 2014 at Adam River in next two weeks.  I have never been there, just wondering if any LYK can suggest itinerary for this Festival ?  Our purpose is spending more time on on Salmon return, taking picture, video ....  I browsed the official web site but would like to have more interesting itineraries suggested by LYKs.   We don't want to join a local tour because tour operators spend little time on viewing salmon and tour guides talk in 3 languages  while introducing one scenic view, that drives me crazy.
