Toddler Car Seat

The ICBC speaker in Pat's class last Wednesday told us not to use car seats that are more than 7 years old.  The one I got from my friend is more than 10 years, so I am looking for a new Toddler Car Seat for my girl.

I see from Toys R Us' website that there are several types: Combination, Comprehensive, & Convertible.  Which one should I buy and which brand is a good deal?

I have the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 car seat...it converts from a infant-toddler-to child booster seat...

also it has a weight limit of 35lbs for the reversible (infant) seating..which is great because babies are safest in the rear-facing position. So even if your baby is over a year old, they can seat in rear-facing until they are older. But the front-facing position is also okay from 21lbs, so if your baby is over 1 years old and over 21lbs, they can also face forward.

When my son gets older, I can remove the middle cushions and the seat will become a booster seat..which is now necessary in Canada for kids under 40lbs.

I spent $189 for one..but now I see many places (bay, sears) selling the same one for about $159.

I bought a Britax Marathon for my girl. although it is quit expensive $299, but it can use upto 68lbs. TJ's Kids is more choices than Babies R us.

I have two 3-in-1 car seats.  Both from Dorel Juvenile.  Alpha Omega bought from LD long time ago, and recenly bought Safety 1st  from Costco for around 140.

3-in-1 is good because it fits kids from 5 to 80 lbs so don't need to buy another one in the future.

finally bought the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 from Sears.  $229 on sale for $18x and since we applied a Sears card there we have another $10 off.

I originally bought the Alpha Omega Elite from the Bay but someone sent me this link http://www.healthycar.org/home.php that says this model has some concern of toxic materials.  I thus returned that one and bought the Eddie Bauer.

Interesting...I've never heard of this concern before...something to consider...
