This is marketing work on a casual/auxiliary basis at the Burnaby Ary Gallery. Along with co-ordinating art rental and sales operations, liaising with artists, galleries and cultural associations to obtain merchandise, duties include assisting in the preparation of promotional materials, overseeing the work of volunteers and auxiliary staff, coordinating art rental and sales operation; soliciting and selecting works of art; advising corporate clients on the selection of appropriate works of art; delivering and installing artwork; coordinating the display, maintenance and sale of art items on consignment; processing payments and maintaining related records. The Art Gallery Marketing Assistant liaises with local artists, galleries, cultural associations, clients and others to obtain merchandise for the art rental and sales program; and assists with the preparation of press releases, posters, brochures and other materials.

The position requires some evening and weekend work.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications include: Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in fine arts and marketing, plus some related experience; sound knowledge of contemporary art as it relates to the gallery’s collection; working knowledge of the functions, purpose and operations of an art gallery; and some knowledge of retail sales and merchandising methods. Other attributes include the ability to coordinate the rental of works; and to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material using MS Word and Excel. A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence is required.
