MAJORITY
i consider myself a minority in canada.no matter how many chinese malls have been built. or how many morechinese has immigrated. the law is the law. and it is written inenglish. which is not my language.
should i say i am not satisfied bybeing a minority in a foreign country. as i am typing this. i am eventhinking in an english way.
there are people promoting the idea ofmulticulturalism. the way i see it. it is a big umbrella by the queenof great britain. i do not recall what exactly i have said in thenaturalisation ceremony in order to become a canadian citizen. ilooked that up in wiki. and found out i have said (or read out loud)sth like:
I swear (or affirm) that I will befaithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfullyobserve the laws of Canada and fulfill my duties as a Canadiancitizen
what can i say. the british was strong.they have conquered places. very much the same way the chinese takingup spaces within richmond bc (in a lawful and legal way). with theirwisdom and money. lifestyle and culture. being a chinese myself ihave heard complaints from non-chinese canadians about how they (thechinese, or we) have changed this (or their) country. (as i thoughtin very much the same way the british named some streets as nathanroad and jordon road). the reason they told me this withouthesitation: i do not look or act like a chinese person at all.chinese ppl think i am white. white ppl think i am japanese. and yes.japanese thinks i am japanese too. of course that all happen before idisclose myself as a hong kong immigrant.
CRAVING FOR THE WORD
the word (or idea of) multiculturalismhas a positive intent of peace. very much like the word (or idea of)toppy has a negative intent of chaos. within this specific contextand audience. (just to mention his name to catch your attention thruthis academic drill) whether you will need the word (very much likethe need of a smoke, an icecream or sex) to bring your mind to acertain state (whether its extreme excitement. extreme release. orextreme peace. nothingness. or full of it) may or may not be yourchoice. its sorta like its not my choice when it snows or the sunshines. as a metaphor. once the icecream is gone. its probably timeto work. watch tv. or do sth else. you may or may not remember /think about the icecream, until the next craving comes. perhaps thisis one reason why i put value on toppy (or the idea of it) s/he isbeing used and s/he is always here for you.
CULTURAL SEGREGATION vs TOPPY
If the idea of multiculturalism and itspurpose is to bring chaos to peace. Perhaps Toppy (or the idea of it)is the opposite. just to shake things up a bit <<<---myselfmigrating away from academic to casual conversational tone.
the point is: if s/he is doing this onpurpose, and s/he knows exactly what s/he is doing. the reason s/heis doing this is probably (for) you. or the need of the majority (akashun zhung yiu kau)(gar hoi sup cheung)
if peace is behind Toppy, then needlessto say, chaos is behind multiculturalism. just to look at the lengthof that word. (i remember myself spending a great deal of time inkindergarden to fit the word umbrella into my mind) a person who needthat particular word (or the idea of it) to settle their mind isprobably a minority like myself. (poor me) and whether that word ishere or gone within my psyche. is probably not my choice. unless icreate a memory loss of that particular section on purpose with mywill. |
