2008 Bride-to-Be's??

Who's getting married in 2008? How's the preparation doing?

The big date, if no accident, would be on Nov 1.  I haven't done much as I am not really in the mood of wedding planning... but I have booked to have the pre-wedding pictures taken and also booked the photographer (who is a friend of mine).  I have thought of some deco ideas...  please don't tell me I am running out of time >_<

First of all, congrats!
I think the most important step is to get the venue booked first. (ceremony and banquet place). After that.... photography, dress, inivitation card, flower (usually florist do the decoration too)....the list go on...

Thanks~!
Speaking of venue, most likely I am gonna find a Chinese restaurant at downtown.  Had been to several Kirin for wedding banquet and pretty disappointed...  I have never been to Imperial ("Hoi Tin Wong Gong") but I like its location (nice view!).  Is it good?  Any other good suggestions?

Our expected date is June 7th.  We are also considering Imperial (few of the places that we could put our name down).  However, there wouldn't be any sea view since there is a new building under construction there which blocks the whole sea view.  You should go take a look and put your name down as well (no deposit is needed).

Congrats Brian and thanks for the reminder.  What do i need to do to "put my name down"?  do i have to know how many people are coming?  i've seen their menu but would like to make some changes... do i have to decide that before talking to them?  do the parents have to come with us?  i am so clueless...

yes, determine how many guest you are going to have (at least roughly), then go and check whether they have space available.  You could check that over the phone, but we went to each location to check it out as well.  You don't need to set the banquet menu at this point, just reserve the date first.

Maggie,
I think it's the right time for you to start site visiting the venues. You should at least call some restaurants to see if they have your date available first. They can tell you some basic info even from phone converstation  (ie: capacity, minimal charge, packages). Shortlisted a couple and see them in real person. Good luck !

Once decided, put some deposit, otherwise the restuarant rule is who put down deposit, who get that date

After we decided which restaurant, we made appt to talk with person in charge about # of tables we need, misc cost on top of the food, eg: wine, corkage fee, pop, tips, OT chrgs, hours that we can decorate before start, etc.

One thing I am ticked is Imperial palace doesn't have a sea view anymore, jet, they still advertise on website and newspaper that they have "mo dik hoi ging"! I asked the manager but he kept silent at my question.

Also, their dimsum was not good at all. I've asked about dinner to my friends that went, they said nothing out of ordinary compare to all other restaurants. Their pricing is competitive but not cheaper. I just book there coz of the loft setting and a nice stairway for the bride to walk down.

** note: be very specific about the charges and what tipe of food they serve. eg: "Steamed Fresh Fish" --- ASK them what KIND of fish that is and what will be use to subsitute if it's not available! **
