Noise Aversion Therapy in Dogs

本帖最後由 sko 於 2009-7-30 16:44 編輯

What do you guys think? For example, creating a noise aversive device with a pop-can housing a few pennies/coins; seal it with tape and use it as a "shaker" when unwanted behaviors surface.

I tried it for the first time yesterday and my poor dog was very, very scared. I don't know if I would want to try this again. She hid near the stairs or my lap and wouldn't eat or drink the whole night... Maybe I'm just not completely in favour of behaviorism.

Also, this is what I found online:

I understand that this is such a common practice, especially taught by professional trainers. So, please input your experience/thoughts. Thanks~

What behavior are u trying to correct?

I used the spray water method to my puppies/kitten when they bite me when playing too rough.
I think I used coins-in-can method when puppy chews on furniture or won't give up biting me even I pushed him away and ignore him. But it was not too loud... merely something to make him stop what he's doing when he's like din jor.
Used both methods for a very brief time only I remember... those puppy/kitten behavior goes away pretty quickly.

ohh thank you thank you.

i guess the only concern we wanted to address with the can is my dog's liking in destroying our slippers.. @@ she likes to chew them (A LOT better now, but she still does it when people are not watching.) Sometimes, she would purposely chew on them to get our attention-- for example, not letting her on sofa or bed or not playing with her.

Like, she would stop when we say 'No.' Yet, when she knows that people are no longer watching, she does it again. sooo sneaky
